James C., and Alveretta K. (Taylor) Sourie welcomed their third child into the world on Au gust 9, 1952, in Muskogee, OK. They named their beautiful baby girl Beverleigh Naomi.

She grew up in Muskogee, attending Deans Chapel Baptist Church, where, as a child, she accepted JesusChrist as her Savior and LORD and was baptized; over the years she grew in faith and grace.

Beverleigh attended Douglass Elementary, Sadler Junior High, and has the distinction of being a member of the last graduating class from the historic African-American Manual Training High School, the Class of 1970; her parents and older siblings all shared the same Alma Mater. Her further distinction of being the last MTHS Football Queen was one of the highlights of her school days.

Beverleigh went on to college at Northeastern State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Secretarial Science. It was there that she became an activist for Civil Rights, along with her childhood friend, Sonya Shipp. Bev began her work career at Crest Engineering in Tulsa. Later, she worked for the University of Tulsa Department of Humanities. In the mid-seventies, Bev moved to Oklahoma City, where she was employed at Tinker Air Force Base in the AWAC Department. Longing for home and a slower pace, in the early eighties, she returned to Muskogee and was employed at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital as a Payroll Manager until her retirement in 2007.

Bev was an avid reader and TV addict. Among her favorites were I Love Lucy, Mash, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, and NCIS. She also loved most African-American music icons, and kept up with the latest. In 2022 she even went to the New Edition Culture Tour.

The LORD blessed Bev with three loving children: James “Chris,” Courtneigh E., and CaShawna Alveretta. Bev was an exemplary mother and human being. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in the way she mothered her biological children, her grandchildren, and the numerous other children she nurtured and loved. Following a role her mother had held, Bev was the Church Clerk at Deans Chapel Baptist Church for many years before her health began to decline. She loved to to travel, especially with her sister and niece. Bev really loved the Tom Joyner cruises she went on with her niece.

In 2009, Bev began to have some health challenges. She valiantly took each and every blow with faith in God and weathered the storm for over a decade with awesome dignity and grace in the midst of ever-increasing pain and discomfort. By her side, each and every step of the way, was her elder daughter, Courtneigh, who during those years, lived her life to be the LORD’s servant to her mother. Courtneigh considered Bev before she considered her own needs.

On Friday, January 26, 2024, with Courtneigh and Chris present, Shawnie on Facetime, her granddaughter, Kyla and all of her siblings and niece, Michelle, at her bedside, the One Who had created her assured her that she indeed had “Fought the good fight and had finished her course.” She peacefully closed this chapter of the book of her life to begin the sequel of her Life Eternal. Her family feels certain that upon her arrival she was greeted by those who had gone before her. Her grandmothers, Annie L. Taylor, and Naomi Sourie Newton; her parents, J. C. & Alveretta Sourie, her grandson, Kyran Lee Taylor, her nephew, Allan Johnson and a countless number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Today, Beverleigh Naomi Sourie is experiencing True Victory!!!! Wee will miss you, Bev!

She leaves to cherish and remember her life: her amazing children: her son, James “Chris,”(Demetres); her loving daughter and care-giver, Courtneigh; her loving and supportive daughter, CaShawna (Randy); her grandchildren, Rian, Kennedeigh, Tommeisha, Solomon, Kyla, Jamese, G. Michael, Sr. and Sourie; her great-grandchildren, Kyngston, Prynceton, Karter, Omari, Gerren Michael II, Ivy, and Kacelynn; her siblings, Frankye, Michael, and Cecil; her nieces, K. Michelle, Stephania, and Taylor; her nephews, Taj, Robert, Eric, Michael II; and a many other relatives and friends.

The Sacred Farewell for Beverleigh will commence on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Eleventh Hour in the most holy sanctuary of Deans Chapel Baptist Church.

You may visit Ms. Sourie, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the funeral home on Thursday, between the hours of 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
